Admissions are open right now. If your son is in Class 7 and you’ve been thinking about Cadet College Hasan Abdal (CCH), this is the moment to act. The college is accepting online applications for its Class VIII / O-Level intake, and the deadline is only a few weeks away.
Hasan Abdal is the oldest cadet college in Pakistan and still one of the most respected. Getting in is hard. But a lot of good candidates miss out for simple reasons: a late form, a wrong age calculation, or walking into the test without knowing its format. This guide covers all of it.

Check the age first (most important step)
CCH is strict here. The candidate must be at least 12 and not older than 14 on 1 August of the entry year, and the college says plainly that there is no relaxation. Notice the date: Jhelum and Murree use 1 April, while Hasan Abdal uses 1 August. Work it out from the Form-B, not from memory. You’ll need to attach an attested copy of the NADRA Form-B with the application anyway.
How to apply online, step by step
- Go to the CCH admission portal at admission.cch.edu.pk and create an account with a working email address.
- Fill the form carefully. Spell names exactly as on the Form-B.
- Upload a recent photo and the attested Form-B.
- Generate the challan and pay Rs 7,000 plus Rs 58 bank charges.
- Choose your test centre.
- Wait for the college email confirming that you meet the requirements. After that, download the roll number slip from the same portal.
Manual or paper forms are not accepted. If you don’t get a confirmation email within a few days of paying, check your spam folder first, then call the admission office.
Test centres
CCH runs a wide network, including two overseas:
- Pakistan: Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Karachi, Quetta, Abbottabad
- Overseas: Saudi Arabia and UAE
- Online: for candidates living outside KSA and UAE
The college may move a centre if needed, so check your roll number slip for the final venue. Overseas candidates pay a different entrance exam fee (Rs 60,000) plus 100 to 150 SR/DH centre charges.
What’s in the CCH entry test
The written test is a single three-hour sitting with one question booklet. Answers are written in the space given in the booklet. Three areas are tested:
- Mathematics
- English with Islamiat
- Urdu with General Science
Urdu-Islamiat is compulsory. Non-Muslim candidates skip the Islamiat portion and answer that section in English. The syllabus is posted on the college website, but CCH warns that any question suitable for that syllabus can be asked. In other words, don’t prepare only from a list of topics. Understand the concepts.
A practical 7-week plan (from today to 27 December)
- Weeks 1–2: Maths basics: fractions, decimals, percentages, ratio, simple equations, area and perimeter. These carry a lot of weight and are where most boys lose easy marks.
- Weeks 3–4: English grammar (tenses, articles, prepositions), comprehension, and one short essay or letter every two days.
- Week 5: General Science and Urdu. Science is mostly Class 6–7 concepts. Urdu needs reading practice and short compositions.
- Week 6: Full three-hour mock papers under exam conditions, twice.
- Week 7: Revise mistakes only. Sleep well. No new topics.
Our sample papers for MCJ and MCM are a useful extra source of practice questions at the same level.
After the written test: interview and medical
Candidates are ranked on the written test. Those who make it are called for an interview and medical examination. CCH says this stage can cover spoken English, IQ and general knowledge, a psychological assessment, physical fitness and IT awareness. Final selection is on overall performance in all stages, and the Principal’s decision is final.
Spoken English matters more at Hasan Abdal than at many other colleges. If your son is shy about speaking English, start ten-minute daily conversations at home now. It helps more than any coaching centre.
Fees after selection
CCH charges fees quarterly in advance. Its newest published schedule is tentative, takes effect from 1 July 2027 and is subject to Board of Governors approval. A few rules every parent should know:
- Charges rise by 10 percent each year after the year of entry.
- Part of hostel and messing charges is not taken for summer vacation.
- Clothing, books, stationery, travel and similar items are billed separately.
- Late payment carries a fine of Rs 200 per day.
Limited financial aid is available, though it isn’t guaranteed and is treated as Qarz-e-Hasna (an interest-free loan). Merit scholarships are given after yearly evaluation.
Is Hasan Abdal right for your son?
CCH is a great fit for a boy who is academically strong, comfortable away from home and ready for a demanding routine. It is open merit with no quotas, so a student from a small town has the same chance as one from Lahore, as long as he performs. If you’re also considering military colleges, compare it with Military College Jhelum, whose test for this cycle is already over.
