Historical Background
MCS has a rich history, tracing its roots back to 1947, right after the partition of the Indian subcontinent. Initially known as the “School of Signals,” it trained officers and selected non-commissioned officers of the Corps of Signals of the Pakistan Army. The school was established from scratch, as the signal training facilities of the British Indian Army were located in India.
Lt Col C.W.M. Young, a British officer of the Royal Corps of Signals, served as the first commandant. In its early years, due to limited local training facilities in telecommunication, many officers were trained at the School of Signals in the UK and the US Army Signal School at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. Over the years, the institution expanded to meet the growing needs of the Corps of Signals.
In 1977, the school was elevated to college status and affiliated with the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore, for the Telecommunication Engineering degree program. In 1991, MCS became a constituent campus of NUST, marking a significant milestone in its development. Today, MCS offers undergraduate, MS, and PhD programs, establishing itself as a center of excellence in education.
